On Island Time with Island Realty

We’re so excited to announce our partnership with Island Realty Vacation Rentals. We’ve teamed up to offer family meals and snacks to Island Realty guests, so they can enjoy their Lowcountry vacation, out of the kitchen, and instead soaking up the sights and sounds of the area. We’re offering an exclusive menu that features ready to eat meals and quick snacks, including, but not limited to, Carolina barbeque, Lowcountry chicken gumbo, classic sandwich samplers and fresh fruit trays. Guests also have the option to hire the Hamby team to cater a private event in the comfort of any Island Realty vacation rental. Guests can pick up their order conveniently during check in on either Saturday or Sunday morning.

In addition, every Wednesday night (until August 26th) we’re going to set up shop from 5:30-7:30 in the Island Realty parking lot to serve Lowcountry Boil out of our Hamby Traveling Kitchen. We recommend pre-ordering this meal option, as we can only accommodate a limited number of walk-up orders. Stop by and celebrate summer with this Southern classic.

As a longstanding caterer to the Charleston area, this partnership is a great opportunity to show our Southern heritage to visitors of the area. Most of all, we love that our cuisine brings people together and this opportunity is exactly that. At the end of the day, we hope guests will spend their vacation the right way, relaxing.

Hamby Happenings: South Carolina Aquarium Gala

Last week, Hamby was on-site to dive into the 15th Annual South Carolina Aquarium Gala. For the third year in a row, we provided catering for the gala’s 340 guests. Attendees were treated to a beautiful sit down dinner, keynote speech from special guest Jeff Corwin of the Animal Planet and an exclusive look at the new Shark Shallows exhibit during the gala’s official after-party.

The theme of the evening was the shark, and Chef Bruski paid homage to the royal mammal by incorporating hues of purple throughout the menu.

Guests enjoyed cocktails and a seated dinner on Liberty Square with a vibrant menu featuring aquatic flavors. Our passed hors d’oeuvres included: Sweet Potato and Golden Beet Latkes, Sirloin and Rice Stuffed Peppers and a Petite Lobster Roll with Chervil (in acknowledgement to Corwin’s birthplace of Nowell, Massachusetts).

Other appetizers included our Purple & Golden Cauliflower Timbale, Avocado Microgreens and a Batonnet of Fresh Radish with Olive Oil (featured in the photo below).

The main course showcased bolder, more exotic flavors. We served Swordfish en Chemise a la Nicoise (featured in the photos below). It was served with an Eggplant Caponata, Phyllo and Chèvre Feta with Olive Tapenade Oil. Accompanying the swordfish was Golden Baby Heirloom Tomatoes, Purple and Golden New Potatoes and Sauce Lebneh.

After the sit down dinner, guests mingled inside the aquarium for an awesome after-party with  dancing, adult milkshakes and tater-tots…yes, tater-tots! Our gourmet ‘tot’ bar was a HUGE hit among party-goers!

It was a lovely evening dining beside the sea and raising money to protect our oceans. We’re looking forward to future endeavors with the SC Aquarium!

Thank you Karson Photographers for being on-site to capture these lovely images. Also our deepest thanks to the amazing vendor team which included JMC Charleston (your design was AH-mazing!), EventHaus, Snyder Rentals, ICEBOX and PDA. This night couldn’t have been possible without all of your contributions!

Hamby Happenings: A Perfect Match

Last week was an exciting week for our Hamby team as we tackled our biggest job to date! This year, we were the official caterers for the Family Circle Cup, a WTA tournament here in Charleston attracting more than 88,000 attendees. We spent nine days working on-site in an industrial kitchen built just for the week of the event.

We provided concessions for spectators in the food court, selling more than 900 BBQ sandwiches, 1000 sandwich samplers, 700 summer salads, and 500 chicken salad sandwiches. We also catered meals for sponsors in the suites and served 425 VIPs and players at numerous off-site events.

Our event schedule began on Sunday, April 5th, at the Player Party, where more than 65 premiere athletes were welcomed to Charleston. As the week got off to a fast start, we opened our concession booth in the Food Court and patrons enjoyed our signature sandwiches and salads throughout the week.  Not to mention that we served more than 2,500 people in all of the suites, and catered the Sponsor Party and VIP Party, at Charleston Distilling and Hibernian Hall .

Tournament photographers, Chris Smith & Alice Keeney were on hand to capture some great shots of our Hamby signature selections.

All in all, being involved as the official caterer of the Family Circle Cup was a fantastic opportunity for our Hamby team! Partnering with four of Charleston’s biggest events back-to-back (SEWE, Charleston Fashion Week, Charleston Wine + Food, and now Family Circle Cup) has been incredible for all of us. And, gives us yet another reason why we love this charming town of ours.

Hamby Happenings: Wined + Dined

Another year is in the books for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival. What a gorgeous weekend we had as the backdrop to celebrate all things wine and food (our favorites!). Besides catering two events over the course of the weekend, we were also able to enjoy the festival.

As a staple to the Charleston foodie and wine aficionado community – we had a great time socializing with world class chefs, cruising the Culinary Village, and chatting about all things Hamby to our well-fed and raving fans. Here’s a sampling of what we served up at the South of Broad Sip + See:

Seared Tenderloin of Beef Costini with Housemade Herbed Boursin & Pickled Peach

Petite Crab Cake with Frisee, Sliver of Red Pepper & 5-Pepper Muscadine Jam

Mini Tomato Pie

Salmon Mousse atop Cucumber Round & Fresh Dill

Our serving trays line the marble countertop in one of the beautiful homes on South of Broad.

Our staff loved ‘toasting’ to a successful weekend at the Toasted: The Finale event on Sunday evening. Our chicken drumettes were total HIT! What can we say, everyone loves a Southern favorite.

Gearing up for the finale crowds!

Our friendly Hamby staff serving the growing crowd

Yum! Our Buttermilk Fried Chicken Drumette atop Seasonal Succotash

Cheers Charleston Wine + Food Festival to a great 10 years! We wined + dined, and are looking forward to next year. Up next – Charleston Fashion Week. Stay tuned!
