Spotlighting Boone Hall Plantation

The unparalleled beauty of Boone Hall Plantation is no secret here in Charleston. From its stunning Avenue of Oaks, to the rich history of the land, Boone Hall has become a top travel destination and venue in the Lowcountry. Like celebrity Blake Lively, brides travel from all across the country to have their dream weddings at this location.

In 1743, the son of Major John Boone planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. It would take two centuries for the massive, moss-draped branches to meet overhead, forming today’s natural corridor and a scene that has gained Boone Hall recognition as the #1 plantation in the Charleston area according to USA Today 10BEST. Back in the 1950’s the McRae family purchased the land and decided to refurbish the interior of the plantation home and open the property to the public for tours and rentals. To this day, the McRae’s still own the land and allow all of Charleston’s locals and visitors alike to learn and enjoy the grandeur that is Boone Hall Plantation.

Catering at Boone Hall has become a favorite of ours here at Hamby. In the past year, we’ve been privileged to cater 35 events from weddings, rehearsals, corporate events and deliveries. From weddings to concerts and other events, Boone Hall provides one of the most beautiful glimpses into the rich history of Charleston. Being surrounded by the towering oaks, expansive pastures, and the historic architecture allows us to get lost in time and appreciate all Charleston has to offer.

In addition to catered events, we also work directly with Boone Hall to provide lunches for their Gullah history tours. We work with their staff to incorporate seasonal items that are being harvested at Boone Hall Farms into the menu offering for guests. For example, on our most recent Gullah luncheon, we provided a seasonal salad using fresh tomatoes, sweet onions, cucumber and jalapenos from BH Farms. The tour is a great opportunity for corporate groups or for a family reunion coming into town. You can learn more here.

We also started participating in Wine Under the Oaks in 2016, and look forward to continuing to help grow the event alongside Boone Hall.
