As the year comes to a close and we prepare to ring in a brand new decade, the team at Hamby Catering is feeling really grateful. 2019 wasn’t just another year for us – it was our 40th anniversary of serving the Lowcountry! We celebrated this milestone achievement with all of our patrons, by catering your events and offering special promotions at The Market at Hamby. It was our way of saying thanks to our loyal clients – old and new – and giving back to the community that has so graciously supported us over the past 40 years.

To wrap up the decade, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite moments from our 40th year in business. Here are just a few of the highlights from 2019:

Best Caterer: We were honored to once again be named Best Caterer in the Post & Courier’s Charleston’s Choice Awards. Thanks to all who voted for us and helped us bring home the title for the third year in a row!

New Menus: We reimagined our menus for full-service events and developed fresh retail offerings at The Market at Hamby. Our new creative catering menus feature more local ingredients, as well as healthier options. The new Market menus have additional gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan alternatives. We also added new meal solutions, so you can enjoy effortless family dinners and entertaining. If you haven’t had a chance to taste our new items yet, we invite you to stop by and visit us in West Ashley at 925 St. Andrews Blvd.

Major Events: We were part of many memorable events this year. Some of our favorites include the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, Volvo Car Open, MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital Dedication Event, Weezie Towels Launch Party and Steeplechase of Charleston. And of course, the 1,000+ weddings, baby showers, christenings and major life moments we had the privilege of catering in 2019.

Top Talent: We have an incredible team of leaders here at Hamby Catering and we’re so thankful for our employees who make our company a great place to work. This year, we celebrated some well-deserved promotions and welcomed a few new faces to the team. After several years with Hamby Catering, Christopher Rausch became our new Executive Chef and Emily Roess took over as our Market at Hamby Lead. Christina Yarbrough joined the team as our Executive Pastry Chef and we promoted Deb Allen and Josh Moore to be our new Sous Chefs. We continued to grow our leadership team and determined new ways to build an empowering workplace and company culture. We hope to continue to attract the highest caliber of talent, so we can handle all Hamby Catering events with care, expertise and enthusiasm.

Fresh Partnerships: This year, we built a new partnership with the local organization Vertical Roots. These innovative farmers use hydroponic systems to grow fresh produce year-round, right here in the Lowcountry. We were so impressed with their sustainable systems and flavorful products that we made them our sole lettuce provider. We were also excited to take a more active role with Lowcountry Local First, where we learned the value of local partnerships and made connections with other local purveyors. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, we worked with the Lowcountry Food Bank to provide thousands of meals to families in need.

40th Anniversary Celebrations: To commemorate the big 4-0, we offered an entire month of specials and prizes at The Market at Hamby! Every week in September, we rolled out a new promotion on our most popular items from the past four decades. We even brought back the Hummingbird Cake, which was Southern Living’s top dessert in 1979 (the year we were founded). We ended the month with our Hamby Golden Ticket Giveaway and one lucky winner scored a $1,979.00 credit for a fully catered event.

Wow, what a year! Thank you for helping us make our 40th anniversary an extra special occasion. We are so grateful for our customers and community, and we truly could not end this decade on a better note. Thanks for the past forty years & cheers to 2020 and beyond!
