With Love, from Hamby: A Wedding at Atalaya Castle

For so long, Hamby has been a trusted source for all of life’s major moments. It’s been our honor to serve the Lowcountry for over four decades, and now, we can’t wait to highlight the events that have made our Hamby hearts swoon.

This month, we’re kicking off our “with love” series with a trip to Atalaya Castle, a stunning location outside Myrtle Beach that looks as though it stepped right off the set of the latest historical romance. Enjoy!

The Couple:

Aaron and Ana met up with their event producer, Caroline, who immediately knew through Ana’s infectious smile that fun was on the menu. Along with the help of Gigi Strong of SLP Events, they set to work to bring this magic to life in the Grand Strand’s very own magic castle.

The Dining:
The Food was FUN! Passed apps included Hamby Catering’s famous deviled eggs, fried chicken & waffle bite, crab and corn fritters and more. This wedding also featured our food stations, including Taste of the Sea, Shrimp & Grits, Braised Short Ribs and our Pork/Cauliflower tacos.

To keep the party going, the couple also opted to have our KFC “Korean Fried Chicken” slider for their late night eats and brought their own pies for dessert.

The Venue:
Built in the 1930s and originally serving as the winter home of industrialist and philanthropist Archer M. Huntington and his family, Atalaya went on to serve as a barracks during WWII for the US Air Corps. Since 1984 it’s been listed as a National Landmark, and serves as the backdrop for countless events and festivals.

The venue is rich with Spanish and Moorish architecture, as well as local sabal palmettos and creeping, romantic vines.

The Details:
The Ceremony was held in the south courtyard. Afterwards, guests moved to the front courtyard for cocktail hour while the SLP planning team flipped the space for the dinner reception in one hour.

Guests then returned for dinner and then migrated to north courtyard for dancing, more drinks, and wedding fun!
